New California Dream Set to Change California

Members of SEIU Local 521 attended the New California Dream kick-off conference at the Fresno Convention Center Oct. 20.
The New California Dream is a non-partisan effort to build a powerful coalition of Californians dedicated to changing the way California works – for all of us.
In order to bridge the gap between the “haves” and “have nots,” this non-profit coalition (which includes SEIU and the McKay Foundation) will register, educate and mobilize Californians to vote and participate in both electoral and awareness campaigns. These campaigns will be based on six core goals:
• Provide affordable, accessible health care to every Californian
• Build sustainable communities by solving our energy and environmental crises and ensuring housing is affordable
• Ensure access to quality K-12 and higher education, as well as job training, to meet the demands of the new economy
• Ensure our government works for all of us by passing comprehensive immigration reform and expanding civic participation among all Californians
• Provide socio-economic security for all Californians by creating more good-paying jobs so all Californians can enjoy a better quality of life
• Close corporate loopholes and create a fairer tax system to fuel our economy, ensuring our state’s budget will no longer be funded on the backs of working families
We won’t fix California’s broken system overnight. But together, for our families, for our future, we will make this dream a reality.
