Metro CEO Alex Clifford Receives Excessive Raise
On August 25th, Santa Cruz METRO’s Board of Directors approved a two-step raise for their CEO Alex Clifford, and rewrote his salaray schedule to make room for even more increases. Clifford’s base salary is now $213,000 for overseeing 300 employees – that’s just $3,000 less than the Santa Cruz City Manager, who oversees 600 employees.
Does the Board have amnesia? Just last year the Metro budget was so tight that they asked workers to forgo raises, they hiked up bus rates affecting the community that relies on transportation, and they even asked all tax payers to help out by introducing Measure D. Why is CEO Alex Clifford immune to the budget constraints?

On Tuesday, June 27, the Metro opened their new south county facility. This is the first time the Metro will have full time staff in South County to help with the needs of south county residents. This was possible thanks to the amazing work of our facilities maintenance crew and to our customer service representative members.
