Hundreds of SEIU-UHW members in Orange County, Sacramento County and Fresno held three days of rallies last week to protect funding for Medicare and Medi-cal. With only a few weeks until Congress decides if it will make huge cuts to essential healthcare funding, healthcare workers across California joined other community members to call on Congress to protect the healthy and safety of seniors and children.
“Slashing Medicare and Medi-Cal will put our entire healthcare system at risk,” said Loretta Jackson, a home care provider from Sacramento. “Think of all the seniors who’ve worked their entire lives only to find their healthcare ripped away from them at a time when they need it most.”
Medicare and Medi-Cal generate millions of jobs in the healthcare industry and provide a safety net for our most vulnerable community members – including children, seniors and people with disabilities.
