More than 16,500 home care workers from throughout the state were joined by Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and other leaders on a tele-townhall April 16 to learn about an important home care campaign, “Let’s Get Healthy at Home.”

Currently, we’re fighting a 20% cut to home care hours in court, but we need to do more to protect home care. With our Let’s Get Healthy at Home campaign we have a real opportunity to pass a new law. This is the only way we can improve home care and safeguard the program for the long term.
If we get it passed, our home care bill will do three things:
1. It will protect home care funding.
2. It will help consumers get healthy and stay healthy.
3. It will give providers across the state a way to come together to get respect and be treated as professionals.
By accomplishing these three things, we will finally be putting the home care program on solid ground and will ensure a better and brighter future for providers and consumers alike.
Home care workers from SEIU 521, UHW, and CUHW were on the call that was translated into Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Russian. In addition to Lt. Gov. Newsom, our 521 Chief Elected Officer Kristy Sermersheim and SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry were also guest speakers.
