Back to Victories

SEIU 521 won an important wage increase victory this past August when our SEIU 521 Community First campaign pushed the Santa Clara County to offer a 5% wage increase (over two years) on the same day members were scheduled to vote for a strike date.
SEIU 521 Santa Clara County workers will experience the first portion of the wage increase the pay period starting December 23, 2013.  The amount will be a 4% wage increase that will go through the pay period ending June 22, 2014, at which time the amount will decrease to 2%.  SEIU 521 Santa Clara County workers will not  experience a drop in pay due to the 4% dropping to 2% because we will experience an additional 3% wage increase effective the pay period beginning June 23, 2014.
Note to SEIU 521 Santa Clara County workers hired before January 1, 2013: We successfully negotiated 1.92% reduction in out of pocket pension contributions retroactive to June 24, 2013.  We were retroactively paid back for our 6 pay periods worth of over-payments from pay period starting September 16, 2013 to the pay period ending December 8, 2013, where in each pay period we experienced double the 1.92% amount in reduced out of pocket pension contributions.  Now that we have been retroactively paid back as of pay period ending December 8, 2013, our pension plan will normalize to the original 1.92% reduction amount we negotiated and this begins December 9, 2013.
