SEIU 521 Family Child Care Providers are actively working to build a better child care system in our communities, regions, and state.

Not only are we meeting with lawmakers in Sacramento, but we’re also having discussions with them in their local district offices. In addition to educating legislators about the growing child care crisis in California and our issues as early childhood educators, we’re also routinely meeting with our regional Department of Social Services and Licensing officials to cooperatively address the challenges we face locally.

There are a number of ways you can get involved, and many different opportunities depending on your schedule. You can find information about exclusive training, events, and much more by becoming an SEIU 521 member.

In California, service professionals who work with children are required to be trained and qualified mandated reporters. A mandated reporter is a person who is legally required to report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the relevant authorities. These laws are in place to prevent children from being abused and to end any possible abuse or neglect at the earliest possible stage.

We are offering virtual training in English and in Spanish for family child care providers who are members of our union. To help union members complete this legal requirement as quickly and as easily as possible, training sessions are hosted via Zoom.

2024 Mandated Reporter Trainings (MRT)

Mandated Reporter Trainings are one member-exclusive benefit our union offers. The state requires child care providers to fulfill this legal requirement every two years. To help union members complete it as quickly and easily as possible, Mandated Reporter Trainings will be hosted via Zoom every month. Log-in details will be delivered to your email inbox following your registration in the training of your preferred language below.

MRT Trainings now open for registration:

Training Fund

The CCPU Training Fund is working for an early childhood education system that prioritizes the needs and advancement of family child care providers. The CCPU Training Fund works to ensure that family child care providers, who provide culturally responsive, high-quality, community-based early childhood education, are valued, respected, and supported.

CCPU has funded the SEIU Education & Support Fund (ESF) to develop the innovative and worker-centered CCPU Training Fund. Working hand-in-hand with CCPU and the state of California, the CCPU Training Fund has been funded to develop and deliver provider- led trainings on business development and child development, a registered apprenticeship program, a peer coaching support network, hardware needed for providers to access online workshops, and more.

Healthcare Fund

Child Care Providers United (CCPU) won $100 million annually for eligible child care providers to reduce or eliminate their health care costs so that all eligible providers can access high-quality health care coverage. These benefits will be provided to you by the Child Care Providers United California Workers Health Care Fund (the CCPU Fund), a health care trust governed by the Board of Trustees.
