WHY? VOTE to Safeguard Our Communities & Democracy!

SEIU 521 members are on the front-lines, fighting COVID, the fires, voter suppression, and cuts to the budget, our jobs, and the essential services we provide. We need to elect leaders and pass policies to weather this storm and create an equitable future. Below is the 521 Member Election Guide to protect our jobs and the community services we provide, as well as passing measures like Prop 15 (Schools and Communities First) to bring much-needed revenues to our cash-strapped counties, cities, and non-profit agencies.

WHEN? Key Dates: Vote EARLY by October 15th!

We win when we vote as early as possible and get out the union vote! Given the pandemic and the threats to our democracy with Trump’s cuts to the post office, we urge you to vote early by October 15th. All registered voters will be sent an absentee ballot automatically to limit COVID exposure. You MUST register to vote to receive an absentee ballot!

WHO? Vote for SEIU 521 Endorsed Candidates!

SEIU 521 members gathered at online town halls to hear from candidates for local, state, and federal candidates. Our members have exercised our voice and endorsed candidates and ballot measures that share our values of equity and uplifting working people, our jobs, our families, and our communities. Let’s elect people who will stick up for workers and who believe in creating an equitable budget that begins to end income inequality and systemic racism.

The Biden-Harris administration will fight for racial, economic justice for America’s working families. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will fight alongside us to win Unions for All and make this country safe, free, and fair for all people – regardless of the color of our skin or how much money we have. DO MORE: Get Out the Union Vote for an Equitable Future!

SEIU 521 Members already safeguard our communities and our democracy: it’s our job. However, this election is critical to our future, and we need to step up our game to win. Volunteer to call union members and voters to ensure they are registered, know how to vote, and can make informed choices on the ballot measures and candidates we support. Note: Due to COVID-19, phone banking will be held from home using your own computer or cell phone. Volunteer for phone banking now.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Voters will receive their ballots approximately 30 days before the election. For most voters this will happen during the week of October 5th-9th. There are anticipated slow downs in mail delivery during this time. If voters do not receive their ballots by October 10th, they should contact their county registrar of voters to alert them that their ballot has not arrived.

Voters should mark their ballot, remembering to vote in all the races, not just presidential, and especially vote YES ON 15, and return as soon as possible. Mail is expected to take longer than usual to be delivered. Any ballot post marked on or before November 3rd and received no later than 17 days after the election will be counted. Voters can also return their ballots to voting locations and drop of their ballot in person. There will be fewer of these than usual and there is more risk of coming into contact with someone with COVID at these locations. The best bet is to return your ballot to a ballot drop off location, usually located at the county elections office, or return by mail well before election day, or lastly, to walk the ballot into a voting location on election day.

Members can sign up to track their ballot at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov (No “www” dot needed, the WheresMyBallot replaces www) By entering their name, date of birth, and residential zip code, voters can select whether they receive updates on their ballot status by email, text, or phone call.
