Devoted to service, City of Salinas workers reflect the resilient community they represent as residents. And they deserve to be safe if they are being assigned to return to work during the (novel coronavirus) COVID-19 outbreak. On March 17, 2020 the City of Salinas declared a local emergency to limit employees and the community exposure to COVID-19 and to follow in line with the Monterey County and State orders. The City Manager, Ray Corpuz issued a new order on April 3, 2020, which included ordering all non-essential employees to return to work on Monday, April 13, 2020. The City Manager made a decision to return employees, originally deemed non-essential to be home and safe, to essential with no direct correlation to their connection to essential governmental functions.

Our members are proud city workers who have always stepped up and are ready to serve our community, especially during this pandemic.  What we seek is to work in collaboration with the City to ensure we are all protected and have a clear communication of what we must do to help our community – not press releases to act like our official communication.  The City must do better for us as workers and for our community who depends on us to help them
