The Countdown to Catastrophe has started.

This is the last week our state leaders act before we see the services and programs we depend on become reduced. Thanks to all the actions SEIU 521 members and our allies took part in over the past four months, California legislators have heard us and introduced new legislation that would tax the ultra-wealthy in order to fund critical services our communities rely on. There’s just one problem, some of our Senate and Assembly leaders are refusing to bring these bills to the floor for a vote, including Assemblymember Rudy Salas and State Senator Melissa Hurtado.

Time is running out as already some services we provide are being cut, and some of our co-workers are facing layoffs and furlough. The way out of this COVID-19 recovery crisis is investments in frontline services.

It’s time to bring our actions to our state leaders’ front door in Downtown Bakersfield. Join us in an escalating action to urge them to protect our jobs, to Commit to Equity, and Tax the Billionaires!
