Celebrate César E. Chávez Day of Service

The March 31st Day of Service honors César Chávez and the farmworker organizing movement, one of the most significant movements for civil rights and labor organizing history. César Chávez was an American farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist who, with Dolores Huerta, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW). Across many SEIU Local 521 chapters, members have fought for and won the National Day of Service as a paid holiday. While there is still tremendous organizing work to secure the paid holiday observance across many more chapters, we are inspired by the efforts or members across our union to honor the legacy of Chavez by continuing the critical organizing work to lift the voices of frontline workers.
