Sacramento, CA – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California today announced the 750,000 member organization’s endorsement of Xavier Becerra in the General Election race for Governor.
Becerra’s Track Record on Standing Up to Trump, Lowering Healthcare Costs for Working People, Earns Endorsement of CA’s Largest Union

“With our health care and our democracy on the line and out-of-control corporate greed choking families’ budgets, working people are looking for a leader unafraid to stand up to Trump and challenge the CEOs who are squeezing us. Today, SEIU members are proud to endorse Xavier Becerra, a fighter who leads with working-class values and has fearlessly taken on Trump and the biggest health care corporations – and won.
“The son of immigrants, Becerra’s working class upbringing resonates with us. Xavier’s dad was a union member, so he understands that workers’ strength is what makes the California dream. For Xavier, it meant being the first in his family to go to college.
“In so many ways, corporate greed and power are what stand in the way of our families’ shot at a better future today. Corporations pay us poverty wages, hike our rents, gouge us at the grocery store, and are now preparing to walk away with nearly $1 trillion in Trump tax cuts that will devastate our health care and leave families hungry. Xavier is committed to our agenda to “UnRig California” – unwinding the rules corporations have written for their own benefit – so working people can have a fair shot.
“As Attorney General, Becerra fought unlawful mergers that gave hospital giants unfair market power to push prices higher. As Secretary of Health and Human Services, Becerra capped out of pocket costs for seniors and tackled the high costs of prescription medications for those relying on Medicaid and Medicare. He’ll bring this track record to his leadership as Governor, tackling the high costs hitting working people the hardest.
“And with ICE and CBP terrorizing our communities, we know Xavier Becerra will be fearless in standing up to Trump and protecting our communities. As Attorney General, Becerra sued Trump 122 times – fighting for California’s Dreamers, our environment, and our reproductive rights.
