2024 NEGOTIATIONS TEAM NOMINATION PROCESS AND TIMELINE

ELECTION PROCESS

The nomination period for the 2024 SEIU 521 – CCPU Bargaining Team concluded on Friday, July 19. We want to extend our appreciation to all providers who completed a nomination form to fill the nine (9) available seats on the 2024 Bargaining Team representing SEIU Local 521.

The CCPU-SEIU 521 Elections Committee certifies that the following nominees are eligible, have formally accepted their nomination, are unopposed, and will automatically be appointed to serve on the 2024 CCPU Bargaining Team:

Region 2 – Counties of Santa Clara and Kings (2 seats) – Patricia Moran; Eduviguez Ramirez
Region 3 – Counties of Madera, Fresno and Tulare (2 seats) – Iris Magaña; Marcella Graves
Region 4 – Counties of Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey (2 seats) – Isabel Cardenas; Vacant
Region 5 – County of Kern (2 seats) – Maria Cisneros; Deborah Corley – Marzett

Region 1 (1 Seat) Election
Since there are four eligible nominees for the Region 1 seat (Counties of Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, San Joaquin, and Tuolumne) and only one seat available to fill, an election to determine the seat is hereby scheduled.

The CCPU-SEIU 521 Elections Committee certifies that the following nominees to fill the Region 1 seat are eligible and have formally accepted their nomination:

Please Note:
Only SEIU 521 – CCPU members in good standing who reside in Region 1 (Counties of Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, San Joaquin, and Tuolumne) will be eligible to cast a ballot in the Region 1 Bargaining Team election.

Region 4 Seat Vacancy
Upon the completion of the Region 1 election, the SEIU 521 – CCPU Election Committee will meet to formally appoint an eligible nominee to fill the vacancy.

METHOD OF VOTING
The Region 1 election will be conducted online via a third-party vendor, Election Buddy. Electronic ballots will be sent to your personal email or cell phone number on file with our union.

ELECTION VOTE TIMELINE
Start: Monday, July 29, 2024 at 8 am.
End: Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 5 pm.

ELIGIBILITY TO CAST VOTE
Only full dues-paying members who reside in Region 1 are eligible to vote in the election. If you are not a current member or are unsure, or to avoid receiving a provisional ballot, sign up ASAP to become a member here: www.seiu521.org/membership

CAN’T FIND YOUR BALLOT?
If you can’t find your ballot during the election dates, look into your personal email address spam folder, or search in your email inbox “SEIU” or “Election Buddy”. If you still cannot locate your online ballot, email communications@seiu521.org.

NOMINATION PERIOD

Each member of the negotiations team has met and will commit to fulfilling the following criteria:

  • A member in good standing
  • Have a passion for & commitment to building toward CCPU vision
  • Have knowledge of providers’ issues, and the child care system, or be willing to learn
  • Willing to commit to training on our union, bargaining, and building power to win
  • Be a good communicator: both communicate to members and listen to what providers’ needs are
  • Track record of involvement in the union, interested in involving new providers. Alternatively, advocacy experience in another forum.
  • Overall represent & are supportive/committed to supporting CCPU’s diversity: new and experienced providers, range of race/language/gender, licensed and license-exempt providers, geography
  • Available and willing to join daytime and evening meetings with the state and prep/report back to leaders and members.
  • After accepting the nomination, share a short biography/statement about why you would like to be a part of the negotiations team.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

  • Monday, July 8 @ 7:00 am – The nomination period opens.
  • Friday, July 19 @ 5:00 pm – The nomination period closes.
  • Monday, July 22 – Nominees will be notified about their nomination.
  • Wednesday, July 24 by 5 pm – Nominees must give both written (via e-mail) and verbal notice of their acceptance of nomination.
  • Monday, July 29 – Wednesday, July 31 – Electronic election will be conducted.
  • Thursday, August 1 – Results of elections announced to the membership.
