COVID-19 Relief Congress Bill
URGENT: 5-Minute Call to Senators Harris and Feinstein
Our U.S. Senators need to hear from us TODAY (Wednesday, July 29)! Our jobs and benefits are on the line. Senators in Washington are meeting to decide how the Federal government will help Americans suffering due to the recession created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Senate Republicans are pushing for no aid for state and local governments and provisions that try to force schools to re-open even if it’s not safe. This is unacceptable! The “trigger cuts” we would see for public and non-profit services across California will be devastating if we don’t get more aid for state and local governments from Washington, DC. This means:
1) The jobs of hundreds of thousands of public, school, and non-profit workers, like our members, will be at risk.
2) Public and non-profit services that many rely on to get through this crisis will be cut.
3) Hundreds of thousands of schools will be forced to choose between keeping their students safe and keeping their schools open. Potentially risking the lives of children, teachers and support staff.
In order to minimize the extraordinary impact this recession and pandemic has on members, communities, and families, we must take action. Our Senators need to hear from us TODAY.
Call (844) 967-2163 to demand that Senators Harris and Feinstein add new aid for state and local governments and pass the #HEROESAct NOW. Any COVID-19 Congress relief bill MUST include aid to the state and local government and all schools should receive aid to care for our kids, with no strings attached.
Here’s how to get started: Call (844) 967-2163, then enter your home zip code. You will automatically be connected to your Senator’s office. You will talk with a staff member or be asked to leave a message.
Here is the script to guide you:
• Hi, my name is FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, and I work at ___________.
• I’m calling you, Senator (NAME), because I know you support providing federal aid to state and local governments. Thank you for that. But the bill proposed by Republicans is dangerously short of what is needed to continue critical services during this pandemic. We need to invest an additional $1 trillion in aid to state and local governments beyond what is in the CARES Act to protect workers and ensure that the public services that our community relies on continue.
• Also, I urge you to stand up for all schools and our children, by ensuring no strings are attached to school funding in this next senate bill. Our underfunded schools in _____[name your state or county]_____ need support, not roadblocks, to do what’s best for our kids.
• Thank you.
