Fresno County – Two COVID-19 Tentative Agreements Reached!
BREAKING: Two Tentative Agreements Reached!
SEIU 521 Member Leaders from various County departments met with the County of Fresno to address the needs of its members as workers like you navigate through COVID 19 impacts and school closures. Our Union wanted to make sure that workers with children have the opportunities to work and take care of their children(s) school care needs. Members throughout the County expressed their concerns about having to choose between providing income for their children or attending to their children’s school care needs and felt that they had no choice but to quit their jobs. This would have been detrimental to the workforce and to the community. Your Fresno County Member Leaders are asking you to vote and approve this victory for working families!
Our Fresno County Chapter Member Leaders are recommending YES on Tentative Agreement #1 (Flexible Schedule Accommodations) and YES and Tentative Agreement #2 (Alternative Work Schedules).
How To Vote
Our membership vote will be conducted completely online. To be eligible to vote on August 25th, you must have a current email and phone number on file, update your contact information by visiting: www.seiu521.org/signup – this can be completed in less than 2 minutes. Only members can vote on the tentative agreement. If you are not a current member or unsure, sign up to become a member here: www.seiu521.org/membership. This must be completed by Sunday, August 23, 2020, at 9:00 pm. Please note, this agreement is part of our COVID-19 impact negotiations with the County, not contract bargaining which we will be resuming soon.

Highlights from Tentative Agreement #1, Flexible Schedule Accommodations (FSA).
- The agreement will be 100% voluntary you are not mandated to participate.
- It will be implemented by the departments based on operational needs
- If you flex your schedule and work an evening shift that is not your normal shift you will not get the overtime or evening differential unless your regular shift you assigned to is normally evening hours or you are directed by your supervisor to work overtime.
- If you flex your schedule to work an 8th consecutive day and you would not normally be scheduled that way you will not be eligible for that premium unless your supervisor has requested you work the 8th day.
- This Flexible scheduling is temporary due to the distance learning by schools it can be modified by management, discontinued, or extended but from talking with the county it is expected to last through December and will be re-evaluated if the schools continue in January.

Highlights from Tentative Agreement #2, Alternative Work Schedules (AWS).
- This agreement is a permanent addition to our membership and is a guide on how implementation and process will go when implementing alternative schedules
- Covers 4/10’s 9/80’s or 4/9/4’s
- The request for alternative work schedules must be requested by the department first then once approved members can then submit a request to work an alternative schedule.
- Once approved, an alternative work schedule agreement will be made for the employee and depending on which alternative schedule you choose there would be no overtime paid for working that schedule (example: 9/80 if you work 9 hours a day but 80 in a pay period the 9th hour would not be overtime)
