With profound sadness, we share the passing of our Union brother, Ernest “Ernie” Harris, former Regional Director of SEIU Local 521 in Region 5 (Kern County). A dedicated rank-in-file member of our Kern Medical Chapter starting in 1996, Ernest transitioned to a staffing role and eventually served as Regional Director. As Director, Ernest spearheaded the growth and development of our SEIU Nurse Alliance in Bakersfield and various successful chapter contract campaigns. Upon retirement, Ernest remained active within the Retiree Chapter, guided activation programs through the pandemic, and most recently graduated from the California Alliance for Retired Americans, advocating for seniors at the state level and holding the Bakersfield CAT Chair for the CARA action team.

Ernie’s instrumental role in building our Union across the Central Valley and beyond is a testament to his dedication and passion. His legacy will continue to inspire us.

Ernest was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, he is survived by his wife Kimberly of 23 years, 5 children, and 3 sisters. We send our love and condolences to the entire Harris family. Rest in Power to our Union brother, Ernest “Ernie” Harris! 💜

On behalf of the Harris family, we respectfully share the service and celebration of life details:
