Fresno Unified School District Chapter Strike Ready Central

This web page is a continuously updated informational and centralized hub for bargaining matters pertaining to the Fresno Unified School District Chapter. FUSD Classified workers should bookmark this page and visit it often for updates as we prepare to be “Strike Ready.”
Negotiations with Fresno Unified School District have been ongoing for more than a year as SEIU Local 521 classified members have been patiently waiting for a Fair Contract. Our elected bargaining team has been negotiating in good faith, only to be faced with no movement on wages for the lowest paid employees in the District, and now the potential of medical insurance costs increasing.
SEIU Local 521 represents workers for better wages, hours and working conditions. Our elected bargaining team and membership has exhausted all avenues, and still we continue to be met with bad faith bargaining and multiple other labor law violations.
Wages are very important for our historically low paid unit, and still we have not heard anything from the District. That is why the time has come to get “Strike Ready.”
Learn more below, and complete your strike assessment card to let our entire unit know we will stand together.

STRIKE ASSESSMENT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ):
WHAT IS A STRIKE ASSESSMENT?
A Strike Assessment does not mean we are going on strike. It is a mere assessment of our preparation and unity. We are assessing whether we are ready to go on strike together. This is different from an actual strike, which would require an authorization vote by the membership.
I AM ON PROBATION. CAN I PARTICIPATE IN A STRIKE ASSESSMENT?
Yes. Extra-help and probationary workers all have the right to participate in a strike assessment. It is illegal to terminate extra-help or probationary workers because they exercised their legal right to organize.
I’M NOT A UNION MEMBER. CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THE STRIKE ASSESSMENT?
Yes. All workers engaging in the strike assessment are protected. Activating your membership is an important step toward building collective power and leverage for our bargaining team. Activate your membership by following this link.
MY BOSS/SUPERVISOR IS ASKING ME IF I’M STRIKING AND MAKING PROMISES. IS THIS LEGAL?
No. You should report any conversations your supervisor has with you about striking to your internal organizer, call the SEIU 521 Member Resource Center: 1-833-734-8521, or email: WWW.SEIU521.ORG/MRC
