Voting in the September 14 Recall Election Matters

NO to wage cuts, NO to union busting, NO RECALL!
Working with the Governor and the Legislature, SEIU members have led California to a once-in-a-generation recovery plan that will build a better future for all our families, including:
- Expanded California’s paid family leave.
- Doubled the earned-income tax credit for low-income families.
- Signed a law protecting gig workers (e.g. Lyft, Postmates), ensuring they have the same protections as full-time employees.
- Guaranteed every worker had pandemic paid sick leave.
- Signed healthcare workers’ legislation to require adequate access to PPE.
- Signed a law allowing 50,000 child care providers, largely women of color, to vote for their own union and get their first union contract with significant pay raises.
VOLUNTEER FOR A NO ON RECALL TRAINING
Our union is working everyday up until the September 14th deadline to commit our coworkers across our workplaces to also make their commitment. Join fellow SEIU members in volunteering to collect commit cards at work. Simply select a training date below and register to attend. We will be releasing more dates as the weeks progress.
WHAT IS AT STAKE
The leading candidate seeking to replace Governor Newsom:
- Opposes the minimum wage, saying it should be $0/hour!
- Opposes paid family leave, opposes women’s reproductive freedom, and says women aren’t as informed as men
- Opposes common sense precautions that have kept us safer in the pandemic and would lead us to a Texas and Florida style surge
- Opposes measures to reduce pollution and combat climate change
- Supported 4 more years for Donald Trump
WHO’S BEHIND THE RECALL
This recall is backed by a cabal of anti-union special interests, corporate cronies, and far-right Republicans who think the violent January 6 terrorist attack on the U.S. Capitol was a “patriotic” act.
They have funneled over $1.68 million into the recall campaign to weaken or eliminate laws that protect our pay, retirement security, voting rights, funding for public education, and access to good union jobs.
National Republicans like Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, and Devin Nunes have all backed the recall effort. The Republican National Committee has even cut the recall a $250,000 check.
Instead of fighting COVID-19, Republicans are pulling a page from the Trump playbook and attacking Californians. In fact, a Republican recall will cost the state $275 million – money that could be used to help vaccinate our communities.
These bad actors are attacking the very things that lift up working-class and communities of color in California—and the elected officials, like Governor Gavin Newsom, who actively support these communities.
