Our SEIU 521 bargaining team has been hard at work, fighting for a stipend for expenses incurred while working from home, and we see the superintendent’s $500 stipend as a huge win! We are also trying to push the stipend eligibility date back so that those who need to take unpaid leave in the coming month will still receive some compensation.

In addition, we’re continuing to fight to ensure that the necessary PPE and social distancing measures are in place for those already working on-site and for those that will be when students start returning to classrooms. We are now in the fight for our literal lives as we advocate COE to slow down the re-opening process. We need to ensure that we can keep students and staff safe by continuing distance learning and opening classrooms at half capacity and only when necessary. Thank you to everyone who has responded to our survey, expressed your concerns to our team, and spoken up on behalf of yourself and your colleagues. The fight isn’t over yet, and we return to the negotiations table again on Wednesday, September 16.
