CED On Your Side

Maricruz Funes is back at work for the Housing Authority of the County of Monterey (HACM) after SEIU 521 won a reinstatement order from a neutral arbitrator. The arbitrator faulted management for not following progressive discipline, which means that employers must provide prior notice to union members when their jobs are in jeopardy.

After three hearing days, the arbitrator concluded there was insufficient evidence to support a finding of just cause for termination. Maricruz is thankful to finally be working again.

Ensuring that everyone’s union rights are protected and actively enforced on the job for all worker injustices is why workers are unionizing and sticking with our union. An injury to one is an injury to all.

“I was so happy and relieved to be reinstated. I feel secure knowing that we are all protected by our union.”
