Justice Restored: Historic Contract Won by Striking Fresno Court Workers

SEIU Local 521 members who work at Fresno Superior Court announced Tuesday that they have reached a tentative agreement with management on a new contract for 275 employees, ending a historic five-day strike. The new agreement will benefit Fresno County residents by investing in frontline Courthouse services, which in turn will make justice speedier and more accessible for our community.

Our members were at the forefront of these negotiations, backed by an outpouring of support from community residents, our union sisters and brothers across Fresno County and California, and elected leaders at the local, state and federal levels,” said Denise Dedmon, a Fresno Superior Court Reporter and SEIU 521 Chapter President.

Our unrelenting commitment to standing up for ourselves and our community is the reason we have a tentative agreement which truly invests in increasing access to our justice system. This agreement allows us to resume the jobs that we love and move forward with the Court on our shared commitment to serving the residents of Fresno County.

As Presiding Judge, the Honorable Alan Simpson has purview over the budgets and workings of the Fresno Superior Court. This means he could intervene and encourage management to agree to a fair contract that ends this work stoppage and allows us to get back to serving our community.

We called his office at 559-457-6308 and told him it’s time to invest in vital Courthouse staff and the services we provide to Fresno County!
